Art Alliance 40th Anniversary
The year 2008 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Art Alliance's founding, and we
are holding a number of events to recognize this important milestone.
Breaking with the Juried Show's traditional August-September date in the Art
Center, we were delighted that a special
40th Anniversary Juried Show
was held in the Robeson Center Gallery at the HUB on the Penn State campus,
March 21 to April 23, 2008. With a more spacious gallery and a longer run, a
larger and broader audience was able enjoy the show.
An
exhibition "40 Years of Wearable Art"
was held on April 11-13 at the Art
Alliance's Art
Center to commemorate the anniversary by showcasing four decades of
handcrafted clothing.

We held a birthday Big Bash
Party
and Art Auction
on Sunday, June 29 at Mountain Acres (A beautiful
spacious lodge close to Potters Mills, PA) for
members and friends. This
featured a delicious
catered picnic dinner;
live music with Rick Hirsch
and the Hirschtet (www.HirschMusic.biz), who
graciously donated their services; a video of the
organization's 40-year history; and silent and live
auctions of original artwork by our artist members.

And we are hoping to hold a number of House Parties,
casual gatherings of friends
and
Art Alliance members, for weekend afternoons of finger food, conversation, and
possibly
music..
To make these exciting events happen, however, we need the help and expertise of
members and friends. If you are interested in helping, please contact Mary Lee Kerr,
466-6050 or
mlkerr@verizon.net, or fill in and send the 40th Anniversary Volunteer Form
to the
Art Alliance office.
We're pleased to see that our Anniversary is featured in
the June issue of Town&Gown.

Art Alliance Strategic Planning Survey
The Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania has served the community for
nearly 40
years. Along with the anniversary in 2008, we are also going to hold a board
retreat to
create a strategic plan for the next few years.
You—the students, teachers, artists and art lovers who make up our
membership—
are the ones who should determine our course for the future. We run on a tight
budget
with mostly volunteer help, but we want to build on our strengths and grow. We
need the
feedback, support, and teamwork of our members to do it.
In January, a link was posted here to our survey, which we set up
on the
SurveyMonkey.com web site. The survey has now been completed, and the
results will
be carefully reviewed. Many thanks to our members for their input!
