Monday Afternooners
No Instructor
If you have trouble finding time for your art at home, drop by the open studio: a great
opportunity to finish work, to have work critiqued, or simply to socialize with other artists.
By giving yourself a regular time to focus on your art, you will see your productivity rise.

Abstract Painting

Various approaches to abstraction into your painting practice
will be introduced, using
exercises that will help expand your visual language and broaden your
sources of
imagery
.We will be creating original abstract compositions from a series of studio
exercises involving collage, abstract still life, pattern and repetition. Technical
instruction
will include paint handling techniques and successful use of lien quality, form, color, and
texture. We will focus on developing your own unique visual style and direction.

about digital
cameras, how they work and how to use them
effectively to take many kinds of
images. You will learn about the
potential and limitations of your personal camera. This is
not a
computer editing class, but a class geared for the actual process
of shooting with
the camera.

Watercolor Painting

Learn the basic approaches to watercolor. This course is
for both beginning and intermediate students.

Concrete Art

New additions to an old, outdoor friendly building material
take concrete beyond bird
baths and stepping stones and into a versatile, non toxic and light weight
sculpture
medium. The weight, scale and construction issues of ceramics are transcended with
concrete while the shaping, incising, coloring and molding potential remains. Best of all,
most of the materials you will need can be picked up at your local garden/building supply
store
for cheap. Think big and join an experimental class for a dance with a new
medium. Class will
cover basic armature building, formulas and structural additions,
casting and
finishing techniques.

Students need rubber gloves and protective eye wear.

materials, style, and subject matter of
your choice. Each class begins with an informal discussion and continues
with studio
time and individual instruction. Examples of discussion themes will be:
sculpture and the
figure, psychology of sculpture, sculpture as a language. Sculptor Blake
Ketchum will
demonstrate the sculpting of a portrait throughout the course.

environment in which we live and the resources that are available to us.

going “green”. But when you think of “Green Art” I don’t want you to just
think of
environmental friendliness or recycling things. “Green Art” (and the
concepts behind it) is
the basis for creativity. Join Christy in this exciting new workshop as
we explore new
mediums, tools, potential supplies, and art ideas. Enjoy studio time and
collaboration
with other artists. Expand your knowledge and skills, and learn how to
save the
environment in the process of saving money.

Photographing Your Art Work

This workshop will concentrate on producing images for
submission to juried art shows
and for documenting your work for your own records. Also instruction will
include how to
prepare an image for upload to a website. The workshop will include
instruction about
lighting, white balance, composition and tips for making your work look
good. Bring your
digital camera for practice and individual instruction with your camera.
An advanced
camera such as a Digital SLR is not necessary.
