Basic Drawing with Realistic Techniques

**Teens & Young Adults Welcome**
Students will draw both from life and pictures. Veronica will perform
drawing demonstrations at the beginning of each class while the remainder
of the
class time will be devoted to students' practice and individual and
group critiques. You will
explore basic techniques in drawing with graphite
pencils. Colored pencils or pastels
will be reserved for more advanced
students or those who'd like to give them a try. Color
theory, value scale,
composition, design, layering and accuracy of shapes will be the primary
focus of the class.
The supply list includes either a box of 24+ Prismacolor
premier pencils, colorless
blender, and a small can of the mineral spirits/turpanoid with a small brush; or a
box of
graphite pencils of various softness (4B pencil is a must) and kneaded eraser, and 9x12
or
larger smooth paper (I recommend Bristol smooth Strathmore paper). Students could
bring
3 objects to draw for their first session.

In this course you will discover yourself through the
versatility of acrylics. We will experiment with different
techniques, surfaces, colors and compositions. In the
process you will learn new approaches and become more creative and courageous with your subject. You will
be capable of translating ideas into a
finished painting and find ways of working that are
unique and personal. This
class is for all experience levels.

Concrete Art

An old, outdoor friendly building material taken beyond bird baths and
stepping stones
into a versatile, non toxic and light weight sculpture medium. The weight,
scale and
construction issues of ceramics are transcended with concrete while the
shaping, incising,
coloring and molding potential remains. Most of the materials you need are
at a
garden/building supply store cheap. Think big and join an experimental
class for a dance
with a new medium. We'll cover basic armature building, formulas and
structural additions,
casting and finishing techniques. $15.00 materials fee. Students need
rubber gloves and
protective eye wear.

Life drawing from the figure in black and white in the
medium of your
choice. Early emphasis will be on contour drawing, tonal drawing, and
tonal drawing with
white heightening. (Later in the course we will
consider the use of pastels and
wet graphic media if there is enough
interest.) Come the first day with a soft-leaded pencil
or vine charcoal
(no compressed charcoal, please). There will be drawing paper
available the
first day; after that the materials will be your responsibility.
A discussion of papers and
graphic media will take place during the first
class. Model fee is included in the tuition.

Getting to Know Your Digital

This course is for beginning and intermediate
photographers who
have a digital camera and would like to know more about it. It will be a
class in discovery of your camera, what it can or cannot do and how to
get the most out of it for various situations. The lessons will include
some background on how digital cameras work, features of the
camera and how to use them at the appropriate times for best results.
This will not be a class on photo editing with a computer - it is oriented
toward the act of recording images. The classes will be actively
involved in shooting and learning the features of the student's particular
camera.
The teacher will work with the individual student to get the most out of
his/her camera.

Realistic Techniques in Colored Pencil Still Life

See basic techniques in realistic colored pencil
drawing that the artist
uses to render the form. This workshop focuses on basic color theory,
composition and color
layering in still life drawing. Drawing with colored
pencils is a very time-consuming
process that requires some patience
from artists. Both beginners and more advanced students will
benefit from
Veronica's demonstrations and explanations. Students will complete one
or
two small drawings at the end of the session. The artist will also discuss
fixatives
and artwork presentation. Young adults are welcome to take this workshop. The supply

pencil,

Portraiture in Graphite

artist will show and explain how to draw portraits from pictures and life
.Veronica will
give details on rendering light and shadow, layering the
darks with pencils of various
softness and achieving good results. She will
also discuss fixatives and artwork
presentation. Young adults are
welcome to take this workshop. The supply list includes a set
of graphite
pencils of various softness from 2H to 6B (4Bor 6B is a must), kneaded eraser,
eraser, general's pencil sharpener, high quality picture to draw from or/and a mirror.
Drawing
pad can vary in size from 9x12 to 16x20". Good quality brands of drawing pads include
Strathmore paper & Canson,etc.
